DINHosaurus here, and TheKillerCliche is also hanging with me. So listen up, Chyeah! nation and we will be reviewing the new Xbox 360 slim against the Playstation 3 Slim, so we’re going balls to the walls and we’re just gonna jump right into it . Get it, like Xbox’s logo, “Jump In”….haha.
HARDware Get it ?
Now we won’t go into depth about the builds and what’s actually INCORPORATED into the new Xbox 360 or the Playstation 3 Slim, Because we’ll be here all day, but I’m gonna go over some fine points that makes the 360 and PS3 slim so …… A-MAY-ZA-ZING (+1 internet for anyone who gets that reference) *Benchwarmers?*
The Controllers/Image:
Now, the 360’s controllers (compared to the PS3’s) are a bit heavy and the analog sticks provide a bit of resistance when you’re using them . However, the look and feel of the buttons, bumpers, triggers, and analog are smooth and provide a comfortable grip and hold up even for longer game sessions. And if users feel like the analog gives a bit more resistance than you’d like, simply change the sensitivity in your game options and change it to match your comfort level (; On the flip side, the PS3’s controller should be really familiar to anyone who has owned a Playstation console in the past 9 years. The truth is, the build is still the same old well built, perfectly realized piece of tech it was back in the day. The Analog sticks are well built, gripped nicely and don’t slip in your hands. It comes in a variety of snazzy colors also. The D-Pad is also friendly for the fighting game fans out there, needing a sturdy pad, unlike the ugly, raised Xbox D-pad (ewww). It features the instantly recognizable, “Square, Circle, Triangle, X, R1-R3, L1-L3” Buttons we know and love, so there should be no learning curve to the button layout. But that leads us to the first draw, the Triggers. If you compare the FPS-friendly triggers of the Xbox, to the short, curved triggers of the PS3, you will see that they are annoying for long periods of time. The oddly shaped triggers slip off your fingers and sometimes get in the way. This is easily fixed with cheap trigger add-ons for dirt cheap prices. The wireless functionality doesn’t hurt either, which is has a surprisingly long battery life.
Oh and how the Xbox looks ? The sleek black paint job looks fantastic, touched up with chrome, and it looks so good, it’s been dubbed the sex box numerous times . ….by me .This definitely would go with any room, whether it be trashy or classy . I don’t know about you, but if you think that ugly misshapen box is sleek and/ or classy, you need to check your vision… The Playstation 3 sports a slick, ego-friendly design, touched with chrome (better chrome), and a non fingerprint magnet finish. Whats not to love? And I almost forgot the Blu-Ray Player, which is a worthy addition to people who don’t like to always play video games.
What’s inside: Now a new and amazing addition to this 360 slim is built in wi-fi 802.11n capability so now you wouldn’t have to waste a 100 bucks for a wireless adapter for the older versions of the 360 like some of us did …. >__>Or if you were smart and bought a PS3, you wouldn’t have needed an adapter taking up space, even from the very first model.
One key change is the switch from two smaller fans to one bigger fan for better acoustics so you don’t have to hear that terrible sound of fan blades turning and turning …The PS3 features a super-quiet fan, that is easily maintained, and doesn’t have the heating problem the SOME of the past 360 models had…
*Cough* Red-Ring *Cough*
To finish up the hardware section, I’ll touch up on the power supply and hard drive:
The power brick is smaller and efficient, however they’re not interchangeable with older models of the 360 line . The PS3 doesn’t have a power brick, it has a standard AC adapter, standard with many electronics. So if you lose yours, you could borrow another one from your old DVD player, or even pick up a cheap one from Radio Shack. A BIG upgrade is the addition of a TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY GB external hard drive and just thinking about is giving me a hard on . But what reduces me to a mini hard on is that the hard drive is not interchangeable with the older 360 lines . Sighhh~ My hard on for the Playstation 3 always stays, because the PS3 is compatible with ANY PC hard drive on the market. All you need to do, is take out the old PS3 hard drive, and replace it with a 800 GB, or more, to your liking, and boot up, ready to go. Something the Xbox doesn’t offer.
SOFTWARE:
Everyone knows that no console would survive with hardware alone, you’ve gotta have GAMES . And EVERYONE KNOWS, the Playstation 3 has NO GAMES.
Title Exclusives:
There are many title exclusives of the xbox 360 that a PS3 owner won’t get (not anytime soon, at least) There is TOTALLY nothing called, "Mass Effect, or Castle Crashers"
Some include:
The Halo Franchise or the Killzone Franchise
Fable 1, 2, and 3 (coming soon ^__^) or the Uncharted Franchise
Gears of War 1, 2 and 3 (in production, of course) or my favorite game of all time : Metal Gear Solid 4
Banjo & Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (My friend Jesse’s Favorite on 360)
And of course … Viva PiƱata or of course the…..God of War
Viva Pinata and God of War 3 (especially the HD collection) alone should convinced you to buy an xbox 360 or a Playstation 3 in the beginning . C’mon, guys . And please, A KID GAME, OVER GOD OF WAR 3 !!?? Not even mentioning the upcoming Last Guardian, and Ico & Shadow of The Colossus Collection (OMG SOTC)
Downloadable content:
Here’s how you access a SHIT TON of downloadable content: (From Both Consoles)
Go to the XBOX marketplace . Go on PSN Network: which is free to join, and play online.
Explore games, movies, add ons, stuff for your avatar Download demos, PS1, and Arcade Classics (your favorite games from yesteryear), movies that you can rent, or buy, even in HQ. And forget the Mii-Ripoff known as the “Avatars”, PS3, has a fully functional world, called “Playstation Home”, where you can have a virtual home, and a character, where you can conversate, and walk in a living world. See new events, which are updated frequently, such as movie theaters, a full 3-D Model of the E3 press conference, where you can see game demos, and booths. You can also customize, and organize events, like clubs, and hangout in your virtual space, its a lot of fun. It comes free with the system also.
Cum buckets .
Honestly, it’s easy (and pleasurable) as that. I don’t know what to say about that…
Online Experience:
Now what I get from my online expierence is a bunch of pre-adolescent children screaming at you for being a faggot, how they’ll hack your account and rape your family . However, HELL, it is a lot of fun . Never will you find a more diverse and in depth community than you will with XBOX Live . That gripe stays with the Xbox, because most of the people on PS3 don’t have mics. Because the system doesn’t come with one, so the people that have one, are either older, or are spoiled brats, which greatly decreases the little kid count. The console originally was $399, so most kids didn’t get it for Christmas (nor did anybody, at the time) Microsoft even plan days and events for certain online games and you can even play with famous people at times ! The online capabilities of the xbox 360 and the PS3 are smooth, (if you’ve got a good, strong internet connection that is) fast, and if you’re just getting started, easy to sign up for. However, one drawback of XBOX live is that you have to pay for it . Even more so, they bumped up the prices of all the subscription intervals (1 month, 3, and 12 months). The Playstation 3 only has one fee, and its OPTIONAL (my 360 owners friends always joke about, how your going the pay for PS3...NOT A CHANCE) , it’s called, “Playstation Plus, and it’s pretty much only for people who buy A LOT of online content. For example: for as little as five dollars a month, you can get PS1 and Arcade classics for free, and demos and betas (like the PS3 only beta of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, only for PSN Plus subscribers) weeks early. The only drawback is if you cancel your subscription, you forfeit all of your free stuff. Both Xbox and Playstation hold a interesting bonus to playing your games online. They are Trophies(PS3) or Achievements(360), which are little awards for completing tasks in games. (like “Beat The Game” = 10 Gamerscore, or a Platinum Trophy). They make multiple playthroughs more fun, and addicting for some.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
Overall, Chyeah! nation, the dubbed XBOX 360 is a fine and grand buy .The Playstation 3 also should be a clear choice, if you don’t follow the whole Xbox bandwagon. It clears up all of the previous xbox 360’s problems (annoying fan, E37 problem, and even the RED RING OF DEATH) The Playstation 3 slim, doesnt have that many problems to clear up, so that just makes this a much better experience than before. Both offer many exclusive game titles and downloads/add ons. If you can spare literally 60 dollars a year for a 12 month (actually, they give you a month free, so you’ve got a 13 month subscription) .Actually, Playstation gives you FOREVER for free. If you really can’t afford it or even pay for online gameplay, then go ahead and buy the PS3 .Which With that being said, YOU, my dear reader should buy this grand and illustrious BEAST OF A CONSOLE. And with that being said, you should take the obvious choice of the Console with the better exclusives, content, and user-base. (I have multiple phone numbers from close friends I have met online on PS3) take that Xbox. And the Motion gaming thing, the Playstation move is the MOST responsive piece of motion tech I have used in my life. It just steps on the success of the Wii, with its near 1:1 technology. All it needs is the software, which also is promising. So this, Chyeah-ites is where you draw the line. The hardest thing is to make a choice…
I’m DINHosaurus, and I’m terminating this sequence .This is TheKillerCliche, signing out.
